BUILDING MAINTENANCE
Section 7.05.01 - BUILDING MAINTENANCE
The Building Maintenance Section is responsible for providing general building maintenance services to all buildings on campus. It is composed of four trade shops.
A. The four shops perform all trade services required for maintaining buildings on campus, as well as performing many of the departmental service requests received by Plant Operations. All shops are under the supervision of the Structural Superintendent.
1. The Carpenter Shop is charged with (including but not limited to,) providing and/or supervising the design, installation, maintenance, and repair for all carpentry repairs such as doors, frames, gypsum dry wall patching and repair, and wood paneling.
2. The Paint Shop renders general interior and exterior painting services. All buildings on campus are painted on a regular cycle.
3. The Lock Shop maintains all locks, doors, and door hardware, including electronic locks, and automatic doors and door operators. The Lock Shop maintains and controls all keys for university locks. Lock changes and keys are rendered as a departmental service. University Housing controls card access for residence halls.
4. The Masonry Shop is responsible for masonry, plastering, and ceramic tile.
B. All departments within the Plant Operations Department carry out minor renovations and alterations. Georgia College & State University may contract with outside firms for some projects. Some of the work performed by Plant Operations includes: installation of new partitions, doors and windows; installation of new acoustical tile ceiling; and installation of vinyl wall covering, vinyl flooring, and glass. In addition, Plant Operations will provide assistance to plan and fabricate wood cabinets and bookshelves.
