Historic Flags of the Old Governor's Mansion
U.S.A. Flag 1845-1846 The twenty-seven star national flag was in use from 1845-1846. The twenty-seventh star represents the State of Florida, which was admitted on March 3, 1845.
Original State Flag The first state flag was adopted in 1799 after the creation of the Georgia Seal. The Georgia Seal was placed on a field of solid blue and included the state motto of "Wisdom, Justice, and Moderation." This state flag was in use from 1799 through the Civil War.
First Confederate National Flag

The first Confederate national flag was adopted in 1861 by the first seven states that seceded and initially formed the Confederate States of America. These states were:

  • South Carolina
  • Georgia
  • Florida
  • Alabama
  • Mississippi
  • Louisiana
  • Texas

These states were represented by the seven stars on the flag. The nickname of this flag was the "Stars and Bars."
