The Stories of Flannery and Faulkner April 2-5, 2008 This year's conference will feature keynote speakers Jay Watson and Anne Goodwin Jones, as well as readings by Martin Lammon, Sandra Worsham, Alice Friman, GCSU Creative Writing students, Sean Hill, Allan Gurganus, and Mary Hood. Andalusia and the Old Governor's Mansion will be open for tours. The Conference is sponsored by The Flannery O'Connor Review, the GCSU Department of English, Speech and Journalism, the Creative Writing Program at GCSU, Arts Unlimited, the Georgia Humanities Council, and the Flannery O'Connor-Andalusia Foundation, Inc. college and university professors, throughout July 2007. The O'Connor Institute will feature lectures and
discussions with guest faculty Richard Giannone, Sarah Gordon, Michael Kreyling, Farrell O'Gorman, Virginia Wray,
and Patricia Yaeger. Twenty-five professors from a variety of disciplines will be selected to study O'Connor's
works in Milledgeville at GCSU, O'Connor's alma mater, the home of the major collection of O'Connor's papers. The
major goal of the Institute is to prepare college and university professors to improve their teaching of O'Connor
at the undergraduate level. Participants will receive a stipend of $3,000 from the NEH to help with the cost of
food and lodging during the Institute. David M. Sherman DonationMr. David M. Sherman has donated the majority of his Statehouse and Georgia-related research notes. Welcome to Our New Staff MemberChristopher Ellis joined the Special Collections staff as Archival Associate on May 15. Ellis holds a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Georgia. He has experience working in the Hargrett Rare Book and Manuscript Library and served as the Assistant Coordinator of the Georgiana Collection. Flannery O'Connor Room Now OpenThe Flannery O'Connor room reopened October 6, 2005 in the newly renovated museum, located on the corner of Montgomery and Clarke Streets. It will feature rotating exhibits related to O’Connor.
