Keeler excavating a 42 1/2 pound iron bar from a bog furnace in central Ohio in 1971. In the collection, Keeler reported that some of the ashes from the furnace were tested using carbon dating techniques. He stated that the test came back with a date of 1630, plus or minus 90 years, and speculated that the furnace was the of work Welsh ironsmiths who supplied frontier blacksmiths with materials.
