The Colonnade Photo Collection 1991-1997

Abstract

The Colonnade Photo Collection 1991-1997 is arranged chronologically and consists of two cubic feet of black & white and color photographs and negatives. While many of the photographs are unlabeled, it is possible to use the published version of The Colonnade to correlate most dates, events, and people.

Note on Arrangement

The photographs in The Colonnade Photo Collection were, for the most part, unorganized when they arrived in Special Collections. The photographs from February 1991 to May 1992, and from January 1995 to May 1996 were organized by the date The Colonnade published them. There were piles of photographs, however, that were unorganized, unlabeled, and apparently unpublished. In order to create some order, the processing archivist arranged the 1991-1992 and 1995-1997? unorganized photographs into the following groups: Activities, General; Fraternities; People; Places; Sports; Student Activities; and Things.

Scope & Content

While the photographs span from 1991 to 1997, the most consistent set of photographs are found from February 1991 to May 1992 and January 1995 to May 1996. There are scattered photographs from issues in 1993 and 1994 and only a few from 1997. Many of the photographs have corresponding negatives and the later sets of photographs have some corresponding paperwork which may provide additional information to researchers.

The photographs generally capture special events or visitors on campus and provide a visual glimpse into the college's student life between 1991 and 1997. Most of the photographs in this collection are not labeled with names or events, but it is possible to gather more information about the photographs by consulting the published versions of The Colonnade.

The photographs in folders labeled “Veloxes” are the photographs that appeared in The Colonnade and are labeled with page and cropping information. The majority of the photographs found in this collection were not published by The Colonnade, but were stock photos. The paperwork provided with some of the sets of photographs generally relates to the shooting of events and advertisements used in the published paper.
