Reference Sources
    The Reference Collection, located on the second floor of the GCSU Library, is often the best place to start your research. Books in the Reference Collection can help you become more familiar with your topic and assist you with identifying keywords and important people. Bibliographies can help you identify specific articles and books.
  • Historical Dictionary of North American Environmentalism (REF GE10 .W45 1997). This small dictionary defines the people, places, and events that played a key role in the environmental movement in North America. It includes an introductory essay which provides a short history of environmentalism, a chronology of environmental events, and an extensive bibliography of further readings.

  • Environmental Encyclopedia 3rd ed. (REF GE10 .E58 2003) This two volume set contains almost 1300 articles and definitions of topics related to the environment. It includes an introductory essay, a chronology, a list of U.S. environmental legislation, and a list of organizations with contact information.

  • Earth Almanac (QB631 .G65 2002) Provides data and other information about environmental topics in five different areas: the Whole Earth, Atmosphere, Oceans, Land, and Freshwater. Includes a glossary, list of selected treaties and laws, and a geologic timeline.

  • AccessScience@McGraw-Hill. An online database which provides full-text access to all of the articles in the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, research updates from the McGraw-Hill Yearbooks of Science & Technology, definitions from The McGraw-Hill Dictionary of Scientific & Technical Terms and more.

Articles
    Databases
    Most databases index articles from journals, newspapers, and magazines. Some databases offer full text articles, while others contain only citations. Some databases are subject specific, while others are more general in coverage. Some databases relevant to the field of Environmental Sciences are:

      Ecology Abstracts Search for articles published in over 300 journals related to ecology. Covers the years 1982 to the present.

      Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management Set Allows you to search for journal articles, conference proceedings, reports, monographs, books and government publications in thirteen separate databases simultaneously.Duplicate results are automatically dropped from the results list..

    The following databases cover a wide variety of topics, including ecology and environmental science. They include both scholarly and popular titles. Many of the articles are available online.

      JSTORJSTOR provides full-text access to back issues of six ecology-related journals -- Annual Review of Ecology, Evolution, and Systematics, Ecological Applications, Ecological Monographs, Ecology, Journal of Animal Ecology, Journal of Ecology. Current Issues of these titles are not available on JSTOR
