      Provides short definitions of approximately 3,000 terms and concepts relevant to sport and exercise.

    Directory of psychological tests in the sport and exercise sciences. 2nd ed. Ref GV706.4 .D57 1996.

      Provides summaries of over 300 tests (scales, questionaires, and inventories) dealing with sports and exercise. Each chapter covers tests for a specific area, such as motivation, confidence, and body image. The summary includes information about purpose, reliability, validity, and other information.

    The encyclopedia of sports medicine. Ref RC1206 .O355 2005

      Provides 1-2 page summaries of sports injuries and conditions. Each entry includes information on cause, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Includes several appendices containing infomration about safety and nutrition tips, professional organizations, schools, journals, and web sites. Also includes a bibbliography of information sources.

    Encyclopedic Dictionary of Sports Medicine. Ref RC1206 .T88 1986.

      Short definitions of terms and concepts.

    The sports health handbook. Ref RC1206 .H3.

      Contains short articles about concepts in sports health. Many articles are illustrated. Also includes an index and list of references.

    The Library also holds a number of medical reference books.


Periodical Articles

These GALILEOGalileo logo databases are the best starting place for locating Athletic Training documents.

  • Physical Education Index. Index to articles from trade magazines, journals, conference papers, and other publications covering physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and related areas.
  • ERIC. "Educational Resources Information Center, database covers all aspects of education and educational research, includes both abstracts of published and unpublished sources on thousands of educational topics."
  • CINAHL with Full Text. CINAHL is the database for Allied Health professionals. It indexes 800 nursing and allied health journals and is updated monthly.
  • MEDLINE. MEDLINE indexes 3,900 journals covers all aspects of medicine. Try using a precision searches to narrow your topic.
  • PsycINFO. PsycINFO is a good place to find articles on athletes and motivation, emotion, stress, eating disorders, and more.
