How to find an Article

Search Strategy #1.

  1. Go to GALILEO.
  2. Enter search terms in the Quick Search box and then choose category from the drop down menu.
  3. Click the Search button.

    Advantages:

    • Fast and easy
    • Searches multiple databases at the same time.

    Disadvantages:

    • Common search terms bring up an unmanageable number of hits.
    • Searches most, but NOT ALL databases within the category.

Search Strategy #2.

  1. Click the "Find databases by name" box
  2. Enter a database name. Two good general databases are:

    Academic Search Premier
    and
    Research Library

These databases search journals in a variety of disciplines and many of the articles are full text.

  3. Or, ask a reference librarian for a good database for your topic

What to do if your article is NOT full text

Go to the Journal Locator

The Journal Locator will tell you:
  1. IF the library has access to the journal
  2. Which DATES of the journal are available
  3. Whether the journal issues are in print or online
  4. And if online, in which database you can find it
If the journal is not listed, you can order a copy of the article through Interlibrary Loan.
