Library & Instructional Technology Center

Furnishings, Art, & Display Policy


This policy is designed to accommodate for the full use and enjoyment of The Library & Instructional Technology Center by all of our patrons while still ensuring the integrity and preservation of the building and To ensure that each staff/faculty member of The Library & Instructional Technology Center has the option of expressing their own individuality within their office space, while still ensuring the integrity and preservation of the building.

All Exceptions are subject to approval by the University Librarian in consultation with the Policies & Procedures Committee

Public Spaces

  • All University approved flyers, posters, etc. are welcome for display in The Library & Instructional Technology Center. They must, however, be placed only on the designated posting boards or stands located throughout the building and removed in a timely manner. Only thumbtacks are allowable; no tape, staples or other adhesives are allowed. All must be approved and stamped by the Office of Student Activities prior to distribution. They may be posted a maximum of ten days prior to an event and will be removed 48 hours after an event.

  • All wall art and exhibits proposed for permanent or temporary display in the public spaces of The Library & Instructional Technology Center must be submitted for approval to the appointed Art Committee. The Art Committee shall consist of two people from the Art Department, the library Art Liaison, a representative from the Policies & Procedures Commitee, and a Student Ambassador.

  • Any visual change or physical alteration to the interior or exterior of the building or existing furnishings must be submitted to the University Librarian and Policies & Procedures Committee for approval.

  • Museum and Special Collections displays are under the direction of the Museum and Special Collections staff.

  • All additional interior/exterior signage must be designed and displayed in a professional manner that is in keeping with existing signage. Signage may not be taped or otherwise attached to interior/exterior windows or doors.

  • Physical Plant workers will assist with the hanging of wall art if needed.

Office Spaces

  • All items to be attached to office walls must hung be with picture hook/nail of the appropriate size in a neat attractive manner. Example: Picture weighs 5 pounds; hanger is manufactured to hold a 5 pounds picture. Wall anchors, thumb tacks, tape, etc., are not to be used. Physical Plant workers will assist staff/faculty members with the hanging of their pictures if necessary.

  • Items may not be attached to interior/exterior windows of the building. This includes personal window treatments of any kind other than those provided by the Library/University.

  • Any sources of an open flame such as incense and candles are not permitted in office/public areas (except in designated public areas for offical events).
