Reference Service Library Instruction Collection Development

I&RS Staff

Instruction & Reference Services Department faculty and staff provide research assistance to library users in person, by phone, and also by email and instant messaging through the Ask-A-Librarian service. Librarians in the Department teach library instruction at faculty request to over 150 classes per year, provide access to quality reference materials and electronic databases, and coordinate outreach activities for the library. Please stop by the reference desk or call us with any questions about research or the services we provide.

Reference Desk Hours
Fall and Spring semesters:

8:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Friday
10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday
12:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m., Sunday 		Maymester and Summer:

8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday
8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Friday
10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., Saturday
12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Sunday

Library Instruction

ACCESS!

GCSU Librarians offer library instruction for courses, departments, groups, and individuals. Instruction librarians teach the use and interpretation of library resources in various subject areas and formats. Instruction can be scheduled for the Access! program (English 1101), Freshmen Seminars, Upper Division Courses, and Graduate Research Courses. Librarians also provide point-of-need instruction to individuals at the Reference Desk.

Reference Services

Ask-A-Librarian

Using their broad knowledge of information sources and the library's collection, Reference Librarians can help you find the information you need.  They can be a valuable asset in helping you with your research and information needs.

While Reference librarians staff the Reference Desk during library hours, they also respond to questions by phone (445-0979) or online (use the “Ask-a-Librarian” link). So, even if you’re out of the library, you can still get help from a Reference Librarian.

Collection Development

Library Liaisons

Faculty, staff, and students each play an important role in developing the library's collection of information resources in support of academic programs and lifelong learning. Each academic department has a liaison who works with a library liaison team to identify collection needs and coordinate collection development efforts.
Book Request Form Book requests may be submitted using the online request form or by sending an email request to the library liaison for your department. Gifts of books, journals, and media are an important means of developing the collection. The Library welcomes gifts that support the curriculum of GCSU and the mission of the library.  Gifts are accepted with the understanding that the Library reserves the right to determine the ultimate disposition of gift materials. No guarantee is made that they will be added to the collection or retained in the collection indefinitely.
