Introduction

Georgia College and State University was designated a Federal Depository Library in 1950. As a selective depository, GCSU receives approximately 30% of the documents distributed through the Federal Depository Library Program. GCSU works closely with other Depository Libraries in Georgia to ensure continued access to government information.

    Firstgov is a one-stop portal to federal government information. You can browse for information by topic using the menu, or you can search for information using the search engine.

    This resource from the Government Printing Office provides access to materials from all three branches of government. It includes searchable versions of publications like the Congressional Record, the United States Code, the Code of Federal Regulations, the Federal Register, the Weekly Compilation of Presidential Documents, and the Public Papers of the President.

    This site, from the Library of Congress' American Memory Site, provides access to several resources covering congressional activities during the first 100 years of U.S. history. You can search all documents or browse and search individual titles.

    Congressional Research Service Reports

    The Congressional Research Service provides Congress with objective, nonpartisan research on legislative policy issues. CRS is not required to post their reports online, but many government and private organizations provide access to the digital reports. Try one of the following sites to find CRS reports.

    Government Accountability Office (GAO) Reports

    GAO is an independent, nonpartisan investigative agency that investigates the receipt and disbursement of public funds for Congress. GAO Reports are available online. You can also subscribe to a current awareness newsletter to be informed of new reports as they are published.

    Fedstats provides a searchable database of statistics produces by over 70 agencies of the Federal government. Browse a list of topics or search for keywords. You can also find a list of the Principal Statistical Agencies.

    Historical Census Browser (University of Virginia)

    Browse state and county statistics from the for the years 1790 through 1960. Data are taken from the Decennial Census. Get data for a specific state or look at time series data for selected topics.

    Statistical Abstract of the United States

    The Statistical Abstract of the United States is the major reference to data produced by the U.S. Government. StatAb has been published since 1878, and each annual volume is available online. For more detail, you may want to look at the companion volumes: County & City Data Books, USA Counties, and State and Metropolitan Area Data Book.
