Development of colorimetric sensors by immobilizing metalloporphyrins in tetramethoxysilane sol-gels

Patrick W. Simon, Daniel McCall, David Nguyen, Andy Warren, Rosalie Richards, Dr. Catrena H. Lisse

Immobilization of metallated porphyrins in tetramethoxysilane sol-gel matrices have been employed as colorimetric sensors for the presence of semi-volatile organic pollutants in the treatment of waterways. A variety of porphyrin/sol-gel sensors were synthesized to analyze the presence and selectivity of specific analytes. This presentation will highlight the synthesis, spectroscopy and properties of these sensors.
