Kinetic investigations of nitrito linkage isomerization in nickel complexes.

Jason M. Brinson, Dr. Julia Metzker

Alfred Werner introduced the coordination of ligands to a central metal ion in the late 19th century. The coordination of nitrite ligands has been extensively investigated since the 1960's. Nitrite ligands, which are ambidentate, tend to isomerize from the nitrito to the nitro conformation. In this study a series of nickel complexes containing nitrite ligands were prepared and characterized. The kinetics of the linkage isomerization in these complexes was investigated using vibrational and electronic spectroscopies.
